Are you looking for a house hippo? Well then, I think I’m the girl for you! I’m Janet, a 1 year old bulldog mix, and I weigh around 40lbs.
I am a stubborn little lady and despite my young age I am super calm. I’m labelled a house hippo simply because I love to be at home, cuddling with my kids and humans with minimal activity. I currently live with 3 human siblings from 1-7 years old and I absolutely love them (and the snacks they drop for me). I can be a bit uneasy around men when I first meet them but with a small amount of time we will be best friends.
Keep in mind I am still a puppy so I do tend to chew objects that are at reach, however I currently get shut in a bedroom while my foster family is out and I just spend the time napping with no destruction. I can also be carried and placed into a crate, but I won’t go willingly. Though I’m good walking on a leash, my laziness makes me hate going for walks and I do get nervous when meeting other strange dogs who run up to me when they are off leash so I can get very defensive. Needless to say trails and dog parks are less then ideal.
I do live with another dog and we are now best friends (well most of the time) but it took us a long time to get here and I don’t love meeting new friends. My ideal home would be as a single dog where I can steal all of the attention or a home with a calm dog just like me. My current fur sibling is just too energetic and as previously mentioned, I like to live life in the slow lane. I really don’t crave the companionship for another dog, my main focus is all about my humans.
I’ve had a lot of change in such a short life which is what has resulted in so much fear and dislike to other animals. Someone who will boost my confidence when meeting new people and animals and is patient with me would be very helpful. I do love my humans, so someone who is home often is great and most importantly I need someone who will let me cuddle with them at night. My foster family has been helping me improve with lots of positive reinforcement training so continuing on training will be very important to help me succeed.
